The engine computer is the heart and brains of a car's electrical system and components. It's composed of hardware (a standard circuit board) that's encoded with software (a program that tells the car how to run). If the computer fails or is damaged, most cars will stop working as the engine won't turn over or start. Most dealerships only have the ability to program new engine computers and will not be able to repair a unit that has already been programmed.
